The Required legal work will include:

 

  • Negotiating and drafting physical and financial supply and trading contracts, including transactions with international oil companies and state–owned oil companies.
  • Advising clients on legal issues associated with marketing crude, LPG and refined products
  • Advising clients on legal issues associated with crude, LPG and refined products storage in terminals and transportation in ships and pipelines
  • Advising clients on legal issues relating to international and cross-border transactions
  • Advising clients on legal issues associated with trading on exchanges, such as ICE and CME/NYMEX
  • Providing legal advice to Compliance, Finance, Contracts, Credit, and Government and Public Affairs specialists in the supply and trading context

 

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

 

  • Negotiates and drafts contracts related to trading transactions, including physical and financial purchase and sale agreements, offtake agreements, marketing agreements, master agreements, terminal storage agreements and pipeline transportation agreements
  • Negotiates resolution of claims (e.g. failure to perform, shortage, off-specification product, demurrage) associated with trading contracts.
  • Provides advice and training on compliance and risk exposure under relevant laws and regulations including:  competition law, market manipulation rules, international trade, import/export rules, anti-corruption laws, corporate governance, anti-boycott and sanctioned parties
  • Provides advice and training on compliance with Chevron’s corporate policies 
  • Provides advice to other support functions such as Compliance, Finance, Contracts, Credit, and Public Affairs in the supply and trading context
  • Provides advice and guidance to, and collaborate with, lawyers in other Chevron business units, insuring maximum effective use of in-house legal resources
  • Consults, in a cost effective manner, with outside counsel when necessary and appropriate
  • Participates on internal teams and committees, as assigned
  • International travel will occasionally be required
  • Availability for calls and conferencing outside normal work hours will occasionally be required

 

The attorney must have excellent communication skills and be able to maintain the highest level of client confidence and satisfaction, in a fast paced, highly competitive trading environment, while at all times emphasizing compliance with all applicable laws and adhering to highest ethical standards.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Lawyer qualified to practice in England and Wales or Singapore with minimum relevant experience noted below
  • 5+ years of experience in international crude, LPG and refined products trading. Shipping law (including chartering) experience would be a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and decisively to client needs in a rapidly changing and fast paced highly competitive trading environment, while at all times emphasizing compliance with all applicable laws
  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of complex and diverse matters, provide support and advice to multiple teams and manage conflicting and evolving work demands.
  • Capable of working in a team environment and partnering with clients, other in-house counsel, outside counsel and staff.
  • Sound understanding of corporate and legal structures and associated policies and practices
  • International travel will occasionally be required on short notice

 

Relocation Options:
Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.

 

International Considerations:
Selected candidate will work in Singapore under the local payroll system and benefits.
