 Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Operations Specialist located in San Ramon, CA through March 20, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

The Operations Specialist provides business coordination and support to the Offshore and Marine Terminals general manager and team.  The position performs varied assignments, including operations analysis and financial reporting, development of tracking tools and databases, correlates data for key performance indicators and scorecards, develops communications and presentations and manages information using SharePoint.        


This position requires an individual who operates with a high level of independence, initiative, discretion, accuracy, and attention to detail.  Advanced proficiency with business applications and the Microsoft Office Suite is essential.  The successful candidate needs strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.




Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Operations Analysis: Develops tools and datasets utilizing Excel, which includes chart and formula development.
  • Financial Reporting:  Uses SAP to extract financial reports and data.  Assembles management reports with variance analysis.
  • Performs statistical analysis, identifies operational and financial trends using pivot tables and Spotfire.
  • Correlates data to produce key performance indicators and scorecards.  Utilizes accounting knowledge and reporting tools to produce standard and ad hoc reports. Established billing codes and work breakdown structures (WBS elements).
  • Tracks monthly expenses, provides variance explanation and presents results to management.  Investigates and researches discrepancies.  Possesses in-depth knowledge of client funding models, tracks GO-113’s and ensures client billing is accurate.
  • Acts as information management steward.  Responsible for design, development, organization and governance of the SharePoint sites. Researches new technologies, intellectual property, consults on the creation of websites and information repositories. 
  • Develops presentations using advanced design skills such as data visualization, charting, storytelling, animation and infographics. 
  • Designs communications and newsletters.  Utilizes the Microsoft Office Suite to produce business and technical documents. Develops and deploys client surveys.  Distills business partner feedback, develop action plans and tracks improvement items.
  • Accesses various databases to obtain and synthesize information critical to the achievement of business objectives.
  • Creates monthly roster report and oversees organization chart updates.  Works with HR to research headcount discrepancies.  Tracks work permit and visa expirations.  Acts as a key contact for required licenses, medical certificates, training certificates. 
  • Arranges team events, business engagements, conference calls and training sessions.  Creates agendas, organizes meeting content and facilitates team meetings.
  • Part of an operational team with Global reach where demands upon time may fall outside of strict office hours, such as early mornings or evenings to be able to communicate effectively with remote team members and business partners.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Analytical skills - ability to analyze data and provide meaningful insights that illustrate key cause and effect, business value drivers.
  • Financial/Accounting - ability to extract data and explain expenses, relating them to operational and business events.
  • Problem solving - ability to exercise critical thinking skills to determine key issues and implement solutions. 
  •   Organizational and planning skills - ability to drive multiple initiatives forward, meet deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and work independently while producing quality work. 
  • Communication Skills - strong presentation, facilitation, engagement and communication skills for different type of audiences.  Ability to synthesize complex topics and present them to the audience at the appropriate level.
  • SharePoint - intermediate proficiency with SharePoint design and maintenance.
  • Microsoft Office Suite - advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Technical/database - demonstrated fluency in learning and using various business applications, tools and technology.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience.
  • Awareness of marine industry, vessel classes, marine industry bodies such as IMCA, OCIMF, IOGP.
  • Experience in the energy or petroleum industry.
