The San Joaquin Valley (SJV) Business Unit is vital player in Chevron's Upstream business, delivering over half of CNAEP's total cash flow in 2018.  It is the largest onshore producer in California, producing over 130,000 BOPD from six assets using both steam and waterfloods.  SJVBU is a benchmark leader among peers and continues to improve margins through in-field development, optimization, and innovation. We are currently seeking career-minded individuals for employment for the position of Trainee/Fieldman (Operations).

 

Overview:
The Trainee/Fieldman is a developmental position performing duties associated with oil producing operations.  This position assumes the responsibility of monitoring and optimization of all production process variables, ensuring that all production equipment is operating at peak reliability and efficiency, and acquiring and storing data. Successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated ability qualifies for advancement to the Operator position.

 

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Successful completion of an Operations and Maintenance training program.
  • Perform duties associated with oil and gas producing operations and plants; including but not limited to Operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain oil and gas production equipment.
  • Optimize artificial lift systems.
  • Well management.
  • Acquire fluid level information.
  • Record keeping and data input.
  • Monitor computer control systems.
  • Test safety devices.
  • Operate and monitor SCADA.
  • Partner with other employees, and contractors to ensure that all equipment is operating at peak efficiency.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System to create work orders for inventory and work planning/prioritization.
  • Scope jobs, permitting, attend safety meetings, create turnover notes, and other duties as assigned.
  • Operation of a motor vehicle on a regular basis
  • Actively support Health, Environment, and Safety processes by accomplishing daily activities within applicable regulations and policies, carrying out duties in an environmentally conscious manner, following safe operating practices, maintaining a safe working environment, and being prepared to respond to an environmental or safety event.

     

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/High School equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a history of safe driving practices.
  • Ability to sustain physical exertion such as weight pulling, pushing and pulling, and step climbing in various climactic conditions
  • Experience with mechanical equipment/hand tools (can be work, school or personal).
  • Mechanical aptitude and perform basic troubleshooting to analyze and recommend solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the capability of effectively explaining information.
  • Strong organizational skills including capability to effectively manage time, resources and multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, nights, weekends, holidays of assigned work schedule and overtime based on work load (some travel may be required for training purposes).
  • Must live within 50 miles of the work place or be willing to relocate and possess a valid driver's license. Company vehicle will not be available for commute

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Petroleum or Process Technology or related technology discipline, military occupational specialty, and/or technical certification(s).
  • One year or more current related experience in oil and gas, or related petrochemical industries.
  • Familiarity with reliability efforts for a variety of safety, environmental and production related issues.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of production and facility equipment.
  • Familiar with pneumatic/electronic instrumentation.
  • Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), CMMS, SCADA, and an aptitude for learning new software packages.
