Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Process Control Engineer in North Salt Lake, UT through January 22, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).


Key job responsibilities include engineering support for routine daily operation of plant units and providing engineering and support for the plant’s Process Control System, (PCS) including Advanced Process Control (APC) applications. Providing this support requires collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to work with Operations, Maintenance and Technical functions within the refinery.


Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively interface with operators, mechanics, supervisors, construction contractors and management to complete projects on time and on budget to meet business objectives. Ability to seek out customer’s needs and prioritize own work accordingly.
  • Assess new instrumentation and control technologies and to determine the right opportunities for their application.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation/process problems and issues, develop alternatives; propose and implement solutions for long term reliability.


  • Carry out various studies to improve process efficiency, reliability and economics.


  • Provide engineering analysis and evaluation of process control and instrumentation projects. Responsible for design, management and execution of process control projects.
  • Ensure application of suitable industry and company codes and standards in selection, construction and usage of process control system.


  • Maintain and perform economic evaluation of APC strategies throughout the refinery.


Required Qualifications:


  • 3 years of experience (process controls, process engineering, or refining)
  • Engineering degree
  • Technical background or demonstrated strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and retain complex technical information


Preferred Qualifications:


Application experience in the following areas:

  • Distributed Control Systems (DCSs), preferably Honeywell, TPS, Yokogawa, and CentumVP
  • Understanding of Advanced Process Control (APC) theory and multivariable controls
  • Experience and knowledge with server setup and maintenance including software upgrades and security settings
  • Experience working with facility operations personnel, particularly console operators
