Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:


  • Provides Materials and Corrosion Engineering consulting services to Chevron refineries, joint venture refineries, complex process facilities, and capital projects. 
  • Consults on refinery process unit corrosion/damage mechanism reviews
  • Completes risk-based inspection assessments and assists with implementation of inspection strategies
  • Delivers formalized metallurgy and corrosion training to less experienced engineers and inspectors. 
  • Acts as technical SME on materials selection, corrosion monitoring and control, failure analysis, integrity operating windows, welding and fabrication troubleshooting, mechanical design review, and equipment repair strategies. 
  • Develops and reviews Chevron Engineering Standards relating to materials and corrosion. 
  • Updates/develops and deploys corporate programs such as Wet H2S, Sulfidation, HTHA, and others.
  • Domestic and international travel is required up to 25% of the time
  • Occasionally responds to emergency calls and works associated long hours.

    Work in and around operating facilities, manufacturer and testing sites, with occasional climbing and equipment confined space entry.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, or Welding Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience related to materials and corrosion support within the downstream (petroleum refining or chemical processing) segment of the oil and gas industry. 
  • Knowledge of materials engineering fundamentals, refinery processes and fixed equipment damage mechanisms, materials selection, failure analysis, fitness for service, optimized field repairs, interpretation of inspection data, and mechanical design.
  • Knowledge of internationally recognized design codes and industry standards on metallic equipment and degradation mechanisms, including API, NACE, and ASME. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (from field craft workers to senior management)


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Professional Engineering registration is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience mentoring less experienced engineers and technicians.
