Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:


  • Responsible for advancing Chevron’s reputation and visibility through stakeholder engagement. This includes but not limited to: media relations, advertising strategy, development of content for various communications channels and social media platforms and ensuring external audiences have information relevant to the refinery and the value it brings to the community and economy.
  • Responsible for managing issues and crises that potentially impact corporate reputation.
  • Provides strategic communications counsel to the business unit and leads external communications initiatives.
  • Cultivates effective relationships with media, community leaders, non-profit organizations and other third parties to promotes the value of Chevron and place stories advantageous to the refinery’s business objectives.
  • Develops a range of written materials, including press releases, key messages, frequently asked question responses on key refinery issues.
  • Leads media activities during a crisis including developing communication plans and materials and ensures the emergency response communication plans are current. Primary local media contact
  • Responsible for managing media and community inquiries/grievances in order to protect the refinery's reputation.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar field of study
  • 4 -5 years of media relations experience is highly desirable, but candidates with less years may be considered.
  • When necessary will be required to support activities outside normal business hours.
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner, particularly on social media networks.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment and manage various stakeholder opinions.
  • Communications skills: Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.
  • Media/Social Media Acumen: strong understanding of the use of multiple communications channels, including traditional media and digital platforms to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Interpersonal skills: Proven ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to media, government officials and community leaders.Ability to quickly respond to developing reputational issues and then provide analysis of the potential business impacts and develop communication strategies to mitigate the effects of these issues.
