The Product Development function of Chevron Lubricants focuses on executing the development work that leads to commercialization of new or modified lubricants for a broad variety of applications, such as engine oils, driveline oils, industrial oils, and greases. In order to ensure we have the right products for the market as soon as the market demands those products, we have medium term and long-term research projects. Those projects generate the fundamental understanding of product requirements in terms of additive chemistry and base oil selection. The Product Development Engineer / Scientist will execute such projects for a broad range of product groups, using a thorough understanding of the equipment and operating conditions that the lubricant will experience. A combination of laboratory bench and engine testing, as well as field testing will be used to evaluate experimental products, generating data that can be used to finetune the product composition, and can also be used as the basis for our efforts in marketing the product once commercialized.


Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:


  • Lead Technology Pathways projects focused at generating a fundamental understanding of the formulating space for specific lubricants, create prototype formulations, and demonstrate performance aligned with the Performance Profile for the product
  • Participate in, or Lead, Strategic Research activities in support of Long-Term product development.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the state-of-the-art in Lubrication, including publications, trade literature, Patent Landscape, OEM trends, etc. Provide advice regarding Long and Medium-Term development work necessary to maintain a position of Leadership in the Lubrication Market.
  • Provide expertise to Product Development Scientists in the various Product Line Development Teams as needed for the execution of Short-Term product development work
  • Identify opportunities for product differentiation, design the experiments that will demonstrate this differentiated performance, execute the experiments, analyze the results, and present the outcome, both internally and externally.


Required Qualifications:


  • Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Tribology.
  • 5 Years of relevant experience
  • Proven track-record of developing innovative solutions to lubricating challenges
