Overview:

 

This new Research & Development (R&D) position in the Engineering Technology Company (ETC) will expand Chevron's core competencies in condition and health monitoring of critical fixed equipment. The objective is to improve capabilities for trending and predicting damage to critical assets by leveraging historical and real-time data sets, statistical and data science tools, available monitoring and sensing systems, and knowledge of various damage mechanisms.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

 

  • Lead Strategic Research (SR) and Technology Development (TD) projects in areas pertaining to enhanced or predictive condition monitoring, with the goal of developing tools and methods that enable proactive management of fixed equipment.
  • Work to deploy new technologies and capabilities across Chevron Business Units to improve asset integrity and reliability, and will collaborate with engineers across the company to disseminate key learnings to grow organizational capability in this evolving field.

     

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Materials Engineering, Corrosion Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Reliability or a related field. Candidates with degrees in Data Science or Statistics will be considered but should have some demonstrated familiarity with equipment, materials and processes employed in Oil and Gas industry.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in an industrial setting, preferably with Research and Development activities in an engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and problem-solving skills in a business environment.
  • Domain knowledge and experience in materials engineering or metallurgy, corrosion science or chemistry, process engineering, reliability, and/or data science methodologies.

  • Job Knowledge - Firm understanding of materials, equipment and processes utilized in Oil and Gas. Good knowledge of factors that inhibit equipment integrity and reliability, including common failure modes and damage mechanisms affecting Oil and Gas equipment.
  • Extremely comfortable manipulating large, sometimes disparate data sets, including structured and unstructured data sources, and proficient at identifying trends and correlations in data. Familiar with common data analysis and visualization tools. Prior experience with computer programming and code development.

 

  • Innovation - Embraces new approaches to solving problems. Able to think outside the box, as evidenced by prior (specific) work examples.  Acts to leverage technology across Business Unit boundaries through technology networks and documentation.
