The Wheatstone Project is one of Australia's largest resource projects and along with the Gorgon Project, will help position Chevron as a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) operator in Australia and globally. The project is now under construction and Chevron is currently looking for creative, knowledgeable and skilled people to join the Wheatstone Operations team.


Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Technician to join the Wheatstone Operations Production team. Reporting to the Operations group, this 18 month maximum term role will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Wheatstone facility process areas.


The role will be based in Onslow on a two weeks on, two weeks off, rotational basis.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Ensure all procedures are followed to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Validate plant operations and maintenance routines and procedures
  • Responsible for the safe operation of systems and processes associated with the utility/storage and loading facilities and equipment in the LNG plant
  • Responsible for the safe preparation of the plant for maintenance activities and return to service after maintenance
  • Follow routine procedures and initiate correct methods for developing non-routine procedures
  • Contribute to integrated competency development and rotational training requirements
  • Issue permits under the permit to work system and support simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) management
  • Undertake required emergency response and health, environment and safety functional training
  • Commitment to health, environment and safety and Chevron best practices

Key skills and experience required:


  • Certificate III or IV in Process Operations preferred
  • Significant experience (5+ years) as a Production Technician within a hydrocarbons processing plant (LNG, oil and gas, refinery, chemical processing)
  • Demonstrated experience in permit to work and SIMOPS
  • Utilities, storage and loading experience such as gas compression, marine loading arm operation, air separation units, power generation, water treatment and hydrocarbon storage tank systems is desirable
  • Demonstrated understanding of gas production, gathering and processing principles
  • Understanding of chemical and physical behavior and hazards associated with gases and fluids
  • Understanding of the function, mechanics and proper operation and maintenance of a variety of utility, storage and loading equipment
  • Extremely high level of safety awareness
  • Strong problem solving skills gained from past experience solving operational issues, and a strong focus on continuous improvement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Possess or be eligible for a marine security identification card
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and build key relationships that contribute to high-class business results
