We operate 100,000 barrels per day refinery in Milnerton, Cape Town, that produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, liquefied petroleum gas, fuel oil, paving asphalt and other products. Chevron South Africa also has interests in a lubricant oil manufacturing plant in Durban and maintains a laboratory and blending plant there.

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Lead Operator, Blending located in Durban, South Africa through September 25, 2017.



Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:


1. Receipt and Stock Accountability of Raw Materials


  • Accurate and timeous inventory management of additives and base oils
  •  Ensure that additives are issued using fisrt in first out process
  • Stock control of all blending related raw materials


2. Blending of Oil Products


  • Control of all blended oil products transaction on SAP and Blending system - Yokogawa System
  • Schedule all blending requirements as guided by the Production scheduler in the most efficient and safe manner to meet customer demands
  • Handle blending of products as per blend formulation sheets and in accordance with safe work instructions to ensure attainment of first time correct blends’ target
  • Handle sampling of blended product and submission for QA testing
  • Handle reconciliation of blended quantities with customer order and raw materials consumption
  • Ensure that blending attainment meets determined target


3. Administration and Reporting:


  • Submit accurate and timeous reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as required


4. Housekeeping


  • Ensure that all physical activities are reflected in the books of account
  • Ensure that all personnel in his/her department are fully aware of their duties and standards expected and the performance thereof. That personnel are counselled on disciplinary matters and are disciplined if and when required
  • Ensure that all personnel are properly placed and trained


5. Product Management


  • Measure and record “set up” and “process” times for all activities
  • Measures and records consumption of raw materials actually used in blending activities
  • Measures total actual blended volumes
  • Performs all required SAP input for blending transactions after Lab release to final confirmations and settlements of production orders timeously
  • Accountable for material and activity variances
  • Monitor all aspects of operating costs in his area to assure attainment of cost objectives through innovation and controlled spending


6. Team management


  • Ensure All blending staff have clear roles and responsibilites with target and goals set frequently aligned with Business needs.
  • Meets their Safety and compliance objectives.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Engineering or related qualification
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in blending activities/operational activities in the lubricants environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with all safety, environmental and regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Supervisory experience
  •  Yokogawa Blending system knowledge


Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron South Africa parameters.
